VAT hike on Fifth Wheels
Family-run business Fifth Wheel Company is concerned that the Government’s decision to add VAT onto static caravans and fifth wheel tourers will result in a drastic fall in sales and is encouraging customers to place orders now to avoid the increase.
From 1 October 2012, the 20% sales tax will be levied on static caravans and fifth wheel tourers which currently carry only a small percentage of VAT.
Adrian Parry-Jones, Sales Director at Fifth Wheel, said: “Many people don’t realise that fifth wheel tourers fall into the same category as static caravans.
“This year we are celebrating our 10 year anniversary. We survived the recession and our business is going from strength to strength as we continue to grow and innovate.
“The government’s proposal to apply 20% VAT is a big concern for us as potentially this levy could add thousands of pounds to the purchase price of our tourers and have a devastating effect on our business.”
Adrian added: “It’s disappointing that at a time when we are just coming out of a recession and the Government talks about manufacturing being the key to rebalancing our economy we are facing this tax hike.
“We would encourage customers to act sooner rather than later and make sure they place their orders with us before 1 October to avoid the VAT levy.”
